IDLE TUNES FOR BUSY HANDS was a sparsely-distributed cassette release, produced by Eric Matchett in the guise of Gerbil Bliss between 1997 and 1998. For this particular archived copy, the song titles were hand written on the back of a calendar page from January 13th, 1998. The seven recordings of IDLE TUNES were composed on a 4-Track cassette recorder. Sounds created by Matchett on a Casio CTK-330 keyboard form the backbone of these varied and inspired avant garde compositions.
Here Taped Rugs Productions has proudly archived this rare Gerbil Bliss collection for the public. Previously, only the song "Hey 19" (about which, in 2011, Matchett said: "that song makes me cringe") has received a wide public audience. It was the opening piece for Side B of the 1998 Taped Rugs collection entitled: "Remnants From Magic Carpets," released by Belgium's EE Tapes label.
